
Yiga Ismail is the Guild President-Elect of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kampala Campus.
Yiga is a student of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) student in his second year at the institution.
Yiga beat his running mate, Katongole Abdul Hakim in the election which was held online using the E-voting platform on Saturday, 2nd October 2021. Yiga emerged winner with 292 votes and his counterpart, Katongole, 181 votes.
Speaking after the announcement of the final results, Yiga said in an interview that his tenure of office will place special emphasis on unity, inclusiveness, and women empowerment among others.
“My manifesto was formed based on the different stakeholder’s opinions which are the students in different faculties, so I believe together as a team we will make our objectives a success. They include promotion of unity among students, tuition aid program, representation, and inclusiveness, female empowermentInternet accessibility and skills development, etc,” the Guild President-elect Yiga Ismail told Campus Trend.
Nakitende Lailah, a third-year Bachelor of Laws student will serve as the Lady Vice Guild President-Elect. Nakitende attained the position after defeating Nabukeera Kuluthum. She emerged with 234 votes against Kuluthum’s 188 votes.
The EC boss, however, says the elections were credible and fair. The Guild President-Elect is expected to be sworn in soon. Before the swearing-in ceremony, the Guild President will appoint the Cabinet and State/Deputy Ministers to help him run the Islamic University Students’ Union (IUSU) Government Kampala Campus 2021-2022 diligently.
