Yesterday evening is perhaps one day to remember for some students at the Mukono-based Uganda Christian University and more so for one of the Guild Presidential Candidate Ayebare Phillip Bravo.
The UCU Guild race has been manned with a lot of irregularities which even led to the postponement of the election to a later date which is now Wednesday 23rd November 2021, more drama is still seen in this race.
From being trolled over-promising to deal with the dusty road along with the university which students suggested was less of a problem compared to what they had and that he was making himself a better contender of the office of the Mukono LC 5 Chairperson since he was now looking into solving problems that are to be handled by the local authority.
As if that wasn’t enough, he made a tweet that stated that UCU law students lacked books material for their reading as those that were available in the library wasn’t enough. This statement aroused reactions from members of the University Library staff who made online confrontations indicating how this tweet was from a misinformed view and was tarnishing the name of the university.
Students too reacted to this tweet with some law students informing him how he was actually ignorant about what he had tweeted about and having disappointed many of them.
According to a local university blog “the Fourth Estate Media,” one member of the university library staff is quoted to have said, “We have never lacked law books at the library. I ask Mr. Bravo to consult well with the law students on law books at the library before coming out with such shameful posts.
Even students at Law Development Centre come to use our books here. I don’t know why people like Bravo want to ride on empty promises just for personal benefits.”
The too much pressure that came from the replies forced Mr.
Bravo later deleted the tweet and later made a tweet apologizing for the communication he had made.
Ayebare Phillip Bravo who is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration will be showing down on the ballot with Miremebe Racheal Serwadda who is a third-year law student.
These two will be fighting to take over from the current Guild Government led by Agaba Kenneth Amponda with the handover set for the 18th December. We shall keep you updated on the matter.
