Nambassa Shamim was elected the Guild President of Makerere University in November this year. The outspoken lady says she didn’t believe in her ambitions until the last day.
In an interview with local television, Nambassa explained it to her friends and coursemates who pushed her to the top office.
They always reached out to her and demanded she runs for one of the highest offices at the University. Many even promised to sponsor the bid.
“I couldn’t believe I would run for the office, but the friends and political elites at Makerere always reached out to me, when I was given my party flag, I couldn’t resist the mantle” she partly said.
Nambassa Shamim has been lately in media advocating for the full opening of the University, which she indeed achieved and Makerere fully opened early this month.
It should be noted that in November 2021, National Unity Platform’s Shamim Nambassa was elected Makerere University’s 87th Guild President in a landslide victory.
Nambaasa emerged victorious with 4,575 votes and was distantly followed by Forum For Democratic Change’s Obeid who managed to get only 314 votes.
Nambassa who was popular for her campaign slogan, “Vaccinate the Junta with wee-wee” surely went on to taste its power and National Unity Platform’s ever-growing popularity.
Just minutes past 9:00 PM on Friday night, Nambassa took to her social media platforms to announce the victory and congratulate herself and her fans. “Thank you for residing in the umbrella of unity. We have fought a good fight, but the actual battle is yet to come. Gear up you guardians of the Ivory Tower, for we must lead the country to freedom. PeoplePowerOurPower.” She posted.
