Makerere University elects National Unity Platform’s Nambaasa Shamim as 87th Guild President

National Unity Platform has been elected the 87th Guild President of Makerere University in a landslide victory.

Shamim Nambaasa has emerged victorious with over 4575 votes. She was distantly followed Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Obeid who had just 314 votes.

This win surely brings Nambassa’s “Vaccinate the junta with wee wee” slogan to life and yes, National Unity Platform is on top yet again.

In Nambaasa’s manifesto, she vowed to work on the shortage of water in halls of residence especially at peak hours something that puts the health of residents at a risk.

Nambaasa also vowed to have the controversial 15% Tuition Policy phased out completely despite the fact that it was halted two years ago due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Nambaasa will succeed fellow NUP member Ssempijja Ivan who was elected the 86th President of Makerere University a year ago.

It should be noted that Shamim Nambassa was arrested by police on Tuesday Evening as she launched her campaigns for the Makerere University Guild elections.

Nambassa defeated Nelson Ssewanyana in the NUP primaries, launched her manifesto on 5th November ahead of the forthcoming 87th guild elections.

Congratulations Nambaasa.
