
With just a week left to the Makerere University Guild Presidential elections, the Democratic Party, one of the oldest parties at the institution unveiled their party flag bearer yesterday amidst trumpets and student cheers.
The new Flag bearer for DP’s Makerere University faction also known as Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) is Byayesu Agrippa a student at the School of Education and a resident of Mitchell hall.
Shortly after his unveiling, the Makerere University Police arrested the candidate due to the chaos which had started to build up as the Makerere hill as students blew trumpets and caused a fracas.
This did not stop the jubilation as the party members drunk locally brewed alcohol in celebration of unveiling their candidate who was later released in the night after deliberation from the party leaders.
Makerere University is set to head to the polls to choose the institutions 87th Guild President on 12th November.
The elections shall take place both physically for some of the students and online for the rest. The physical elections shall be held for the finalists and first year students(freshers) while the online elections shall cater for the rest of the students who shall vote via the provided online voting resources.
