Eight armed thugs raided the home of Lira University lecturer and robbed him of Shs 5 million cash at gunpoint.
The gunmen stormed the home of Moses Kaahwa in Nyabakande Cell, Rukunyu ward, Kakindo town council in Kakumiro district at around 2 am on Saturday.
According to Kanawha, the thugs first ordered him to open the door in vain before firing a bullet into the house that shattered one of the windows. After gaining entry, he says the thugs placed him and his wife at gunpoint prompting him to surrender a bag containing Shs 5 million.
Annette Tumusiime, a neighbor says although they immediately alerted police, it took police over one hour to arrive at the crime scene when the thugs had already fled.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that police have recovered some cartridges at the scene, which will help their investigations.
