
It wasn’t all smiles and relief for everyone at the Banda-based Kyambogo University as the campus reopened for physical learning after 5 months of abrupt closure.
Unvaccinated students were today denied entry into the University after they failed to produce a vaccination card required of every student to access the campus.
The students were reporting for their lectures ahead of their upcoming end of semester one examinations that were left undone when institutions were ordered to shut their doors in June this year.
Kyambogo University is just one among many of the Universities that have enforced the restriction. Students at Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) have complained of being asked to produce a vaccination card to gain access to the University premises.
Like Kyambogo, IUIU has examinations scheduled shortly after the University has fully reopened.
Nkumba University, Kampala University and Bugema University are among the Universities that have warned their students to get vaccinated before they report to campus.
National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) recently come out condemning the issue of chasing students without also putting in place institutional measures to have them vaccinated. Universities like Makerere University and UCU have set up free vaccination centers for their students,
