Two more suspects arrested in connection to a body found in a septic tank at KIU

The two suspects, who were arrested on Monday night, are Richard Kayiza, 48, and his son identified as Mansion Sekalega.

Two more suspects have been arrested in connection to the body that was recovered from a septic tank at Kampala International University (KIU) on Saturday last week.

The suspects, who bring the total number to three, were arrested on charges connected to the murder of Leonard Kato whose body was found in the KIU septic tank.

The two suspects, who were arrested on Monday night, are Richard Kayiza, 48, and his son identified as Mansion Sekalega.

The first one to be arrested was Maria Kambugu, a resident of Central Zone, Kabalagala.

The suspected, Kayiza is said to have murdered Kato after warning him to stop pursuing his daughter for a romantic relationship. Kayiza had learned of this through his daughter who later led him to Kato’s home.

A few days after this, Kato’s body was found drenching in a septic tank at KIU.

Police from Kabalagala later retrieved his body and took it to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem and also recovered some exhibits including a knife suspected to have been used by the suspects.

“I had earlier warned Kato to leave my daughter alone because she is just 13-years-old but he insisted on luring her for sex and that is why I got annoyed and killed him,” Kayiza reportedly said.

Police have said investigations are still ongoing.
