Makerere University releases Guild Electoral roadmap, Calls for nominations

Guild elections: MUK releases the Guild Electoral roadmap and Calls for nominations for the upcoming 87th Guild race.

Guild elections

Makerere University has released the guild electoral roadmap and subsequently called for nominations ahead of the 87th Guild elections.

The call for nominations will take place from 29th October to 2nd November 2021 and will be handled by the Office of the Electoral Commission.

The verification of the nominated candidates will take place between 3rd November and 5th November while the issuance of certificates of eligibility will take place on Saturday 6th November 2021.

The electoral roadmap comes at a time when political parties are gearing up efforts to establish strongholds in different universities across the country.

This year’s election will be carried out both online and physical. This is aimed at observing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with regards to the spread of COVID-19 as set by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The online version of the elections will be tested for efficiency on 4th November ahead of the final election on 12th November 2021. This is to make sure that the system is ready for implementation on the D-day.

Ssempijja Ivan, who is the current Guild President, performed marvelously at the previous guild elections, to become Makerere’s 86th guild president after a three day campaign run that was demmed by many to have been ill prepared.

The University hopes to make substantial changes this time around.
