Makerere University’s long-time strike machine David Musiri is currently bedridden at Malcolm medical center after he collapsed under unclear circumstances.
Through a tweet by an admin on his Twitter handle, doctors ran several tests but couldn’t come to a conclusion about what he is suffering from. He is however reportedly having abdominal disorders.
Musiri David currently heads the National Unity Platform (NUP) Institutions wing where he has registered several victories for the party in different Universities
Musiri David became prominent in the #FeesMustFall protest where a viral video showed him being arrested by several police officers during the strike, a situation that led to his suspension with several others by Makerere University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nawangwe.
He was arrested in the period leading to the 2021 elections where he petitioned the Electoral Commission to reveal to the public, President Museveni’s academic documents and full names.
Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Africa. In January of that year, the school, which was later renamed Uganda Technical College, opened its doors to 14 day students who began studying Carpentry, Building and Mechanics.
The College soon began offering various other courses in Medical Care, Agriculture , Veterinary Sciences and Teacher Training. It expanded over the years to become a Center for Higher Education in East Africa in 1935. In 1937, the College started developing into an institution of higher education, offering post-school certificate courses
